All ages, all stages. I have several years experience working with and teaching children, adults, and people with special needs.

Music Theory Taught:

Reading music in Standard Notation and/or Tablature. Rhythm, Harmony, Ear Training, Chords, Modes, Fingerstyle, Speed, Dexterity, Agility, Stamina, Advanced Guitar Techniques

Philosophy

Music is meant to be a fun activity! Your inspirations will guide the personalized lessons. We will learn the music you love while studying the theory and techniques that support your learning.

Qualifications:

I have studied a great deal of Music since childhood, including private lessons and several Classical Guitar Masterclasses with internationally renowned guitarists such as James Smith, Ricardo Iznaola, and Ernesto Tamayo. I started playing and studying music in the 1980s, studied violin during all three years of middle school in the mid 90s and started playing guitar in 1995.

I’ve studied and taught many styles including: Heavy Metal, Classical, Baroque, Renaissance, Flamenco, Spanish, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Pop and Alternative.

I graduated from CMU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, class of 2005. I’m a member of Psi-Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology. I worked in the field of mental health/medicine for almost eight years before switching to music full time.

Beginning in 2013 I went back to CMU and took several classes in education and several more in music. As it stands, I’m still just a few credits short of another BA in Music.

I started teaching private lessons in 2015 and have helped teach numerous children and adults to play guitar. I have helped solve years-long roadblocks with seasoned players.

I have been holding the Children’s Guitar Ensemble since 2018 and have hosted several performances.

I use my knowledge of psychology, learning and education to maintain student motivation, achieve goals and enjoy the process of learning music!
